About us

We are about well-made, well-priced contemporary outdoor furniture, designed for the kiwi lifestyle

Hi and welcome to Outside Space.

Since 2018, we’ve offered a range of premium quality outdoor furniture for Kiwis who have discerning tastes but do not want to overspend. By religiously keeping our overheads low, we deliver well-designed yet well-priced outdoor products that New Zealanders really want.

This approach seems to be working, and we continue to grow season after season!

Our outdoor lounge furniture features Sunbrella® and Agora® fabric, both of which offer a 5-year sun fade warranty that you won’t find at mainstream retail stores. We also offer a 3-year warranty on our powdercoated frames.

Most of the images of our ranges that you see on our website were taken in the homes of our clients. We are extremely proud that this portfolio of inspiring and authentic Kiwi outdoor settings continues to grow.

So we’d love to see you at our newly expanded 3200 square foot showroom. But if you are too busy or too far to visit, simply buy online. We’ve shipped to online customers in Kerikeri, Whangarei, Tauranga, Mangawhai, Whangamata, Napier, Taupo, New Plymouth, BOP and Wellington. We’ve also delivered to South Island locations including Nelson, Blenheim, Christchurch, Ashburton, Dunedin, Temuka, Queenstown and Wanaka. You can feel confident when you buy online from us.

About us: How did this venture of ours come about?

Despite my best efforts, I struggled to find lovely yet affordable premium quality outdoor furniture to enhance our family’s outdoor living. Each year, I’d explore the various options available to me such as the big brand hardware stores’ offering low-price low-quality options.

I would then migrate to the mid-range (but not inexpensive) but boring options from reputable furniture stores. Finally, I  perused the designer-type collections only to be jolted back to reality when I saw the 5-figure price tag.

I realised that other mere middle-class mortals like myself shared the same general frustration, and I could do something about this. The result is Outside Space.

Now in our eighth season, we are a true family-run business, powered by a diverse and complementary set of professional backgrounds. I bring a foundation in Marketing from my time with both private and listed companies. Steve, offers deep retail expertise as the founder of Amazon Surf Wear, while James and Tom round out our leadership with their respective backgrounds in Civil Engineering and Accounting.

So, we know a thing or two about what people really want and how to get it to them.

Also, we’re proud to have over 160 five-star Google reviews from customers who love our furniture. We invite you to read what they have to say.

THE PRODUCTS WE SELL

We are very aware that our product needs to suit New Zealand’s harsh and unforgiving elements. We also understand that New Zealanders have a ‘love hate’ relationship with their outdoor furniture. They buy their beautiful-looking outdoor furniture in the hope that ‘this one will last the distance!” Disappointment occurs when their product lacks the longevity they expected.

Because of this, we have done our homework and have chosen only high-quality materials. For example, we use only quicking drying foam, Sunbrella ®  and Tuvatextil Agora® fabrics. We’re proud to partner with long-established manufacturers that supply an impressive list of retail and direct clients worldwide. One of our manufacturers supplies outdoor furniture to a major cruise liner. They have a full understanding of the impact of saltwater and sun on outdoor products from their experience over the years.

In 2023, 2024 and again in 2025, our Ops Manager spent several weeks at our partner factories to carry out quality control as our products were being produced. The sole purpose was to ensure that our quality standards were met before they were loaded for shipment.

In short, it is in our best interest to only offer premium quality outdoor furniture products, and we do warranty our product.

FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

How do I know that Outside Space NZ has the pedigree to provide high-quality well-made outdoor furniture that will last?

Outside Space is a family-owned Kiwi business with over 160+ 5-star Google reviews, some from long -term customers who purchased our rust-proof outdoor furniture reporting that their furniture remains showroom-beautiful after years of continuous exposure to New Zealand’s harsh UV, rain, and intense weather.

Outside Space furniture is designed with NZ conditions in mind; the durability of our premium outdoor furniture is backed by industry-leading warranties and proven longevity, with a near-zero product return rate since establishing in 2018.

Outside Space provides a 3-year manufacturing defects warranty on all powder-coated marine-grade aluminium frames and a 5-year sunfade warranty on acrylic fabrics like Sunbrella® and Agora®. View our warranty here

The Outside Space direct-to-consumer model eliminates middleman markups and traditional corporate overheads to pass maximum savings directly to the customer. Working directly with factories allows Outside Space to offer premium quality outdoor lounges, dining sets, and cantilever umbrellas at a better price point, where traditional retail chains typically offer inferior materials and have a larger markup.

Unlike standard outdoor fabrics that fade and stain quickly, Outside Space furniture is made with Sunbrella® and Agora® outdoor fabric.  These two brands are premium 100% solution-dyed acrylic performance fabrics designed to resist New Zealand’s strong UV rays. Solution-dyed means the colour pigment is mixed directly into the liquid polymer before the fibres are spun, so the colour becomes an inherent part of the yarn structure. Additionally, these acrylic fabrics feature advanced liquid and stain resistance for easy cleaning.

Yes, Outside Space cushions can be left outdoors. However, storing them somewhere dry or using a breathable cover is recommended during rainy periods and over winter to protect them from bird droppings, pollen and inclement weather. Outside Space seat cushions are made with quick-dry foam and water-resistant fabrics, allowing passing rain showers to bead off the surface and excess moisture to drain straight through the cushion.

Outside Space’s premium cantilever umbrellas are made to commercial-grade specifications with Sunbrella® fabric canopies, rust-proof anodised aluminium frames, and stainless steel fixings. While cheaper alternatives cut costs by reducing tilt features and using lighter bases or inferior materials, Outside Space cantilever umbrellas have 3-way tilt functionality, 360-degree rotation and robust heavy-duty components. In Auckland, umbrella deliveries include a complete umbrella assembly and setup service.

Outside Space prioritises keeping its contemporary outdoor collections fully stocked in its NZ warehouse to ensure quick dispatch without the multi-month wait times typical of pre-order retail models. Styles can sell out toward the end of the season.

Delivery by the Outside Space team costs a flat rate of $100 for the Auckland area and includes full set-up of furniture and umbrella assembly

Yes, Outside Space provides fully insured nationwide delivery across the entire North and South Islands, regularly shipping to regional centres like Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, Nelson, and Dunedin, as well as rural areas.

For locations within a two-hour radius of Auckland (such as Whangārei, Hamilton, and Tauranga) Outside Space’s internal team handles delivery for $150 to $200. For the rest of New Zealand, freight is managed by specialised third-party carriers with 100% transit insurance covered by Outside Space. Price will vary depending on the volume of the packaged order – please get in touch with us for a quote.

Following payment, the Outside Space team will contact customers within two working days to schedule a convenient delivery day and a dedicated delivery window. In Auckland, delivery is generally within one week. During peak season, and for out-of-Auckland and South Island deliveries, shipping may take slightly longer.

The Outside Space showroom is located at 163 Pilkington Road, Panmure, Auckland (about an 8-minute drive from Sylvia Park).

Outside Space operates on a seasonal schedule. From September to December, the showroom is open 7 days a week from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with hours gradually reducing from January onward. During the winter off-season (May to July), the showroom opens on Fridays and Saturdays as well as by appointment. The online store remains fully operational 24/7 throughout the year at outsidespace.co.nz, alongside phone support at (09) 527 0504.

For Outside Space’s rust-proof aluminium frames, a simple wipe down with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge easily removes salt residue and seasonal pollen. For cushions, spills will naturally pool on top, so just blot them quickly. For tougher organic or oil stains, you can spot-clean with a soft cloth. For further detail, we have several blogs on this subject

Almost all furniture ranges are designed by the Outside Space team, in-house! Outside Space furniture is designed to match the clean, minimalist aesthetic of modern Kiwi architecture while ensuring the materials can survive the harsh NZ sun and coastal air.

Always close and cover your umbrella when it is windy. Our cantilever umbrellas are built to withstand winds of up to 35-50 km/h (depending on the model); however strong gusts turn open canopies into sails, and tilting the canopy will affect the wind resistance. Our golden rule: if you aren’t using it, wind it down!
